The Barnacle State Historical Site

The Barnacle State Historic Site contains the oldest home in Dade County in its original location. The home of Ralph Middleton Monroe, one of Coconut Groves most influential pioneers. A visit here provides you with a glimpse into the rich past of the Era of the Bay. The Barnacle is one of the best preserved historic sites youll ever find. Commodore Monroes home reflects the image of a simpler time in South Floridas past.

The Kampong
Limited tours by appointment only.
One of Miami's historic treasures dating back to the 1800's, it was once the home of Dr. Fairchild who planted the grounds as his personal garden. The Kampong is now one of the gardens of the National Tropical Botanical Garden based in Hawaii. The Kampong is dedicated to preservation and scientific research and is not open to the general public, but interested parties my call the garden for information. 305-442-7169.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

16th-century Italian Renaissance-style villa and 10 acres of formal gardens on Biscyane Bay. The house has 34 rooms of 15th - 19th century antique furnishings and decorative arts. Guided tours, cafe/gift shop, climate-controlled. daily except Christmas.
