SAFETY TIPS FOR TRAVELERS

We have compiled the following safety tips, to help you enjoy a safe and secure vacation.

AT THE AIRPORT
  • Never store valuables-cash, jewelry-in your luggage and never leave baggage unattended.

  • Secure your luggage with a lock on the zipper or band your luggage as a safeguard against pilferage.

  • Secure buses, taxies and limousines at authorized pick-up points.

  • Avoid anyone who offers allegedly low-cost transportation services.

  • Always note the identification number of the vehicle for investigative purposes, in case you might experience a problem.

  • Get specific directions to your destination before leaving the airport.

IN YOUR CAR

  • Get clear directions before leaving in your rental car. Use a map to plan your route and ask car a rental representative or hotel concierge for step by step directions.

  • If you get lost, go to the nearest public place to read your map or ask for directions.

  • When using garages, always keep your parking ticket with you. Leaving it allows the thief to exit the parking lot.

  • Never leave your car running unattended.

  • Keep doors locked and windows up when driving. When parked do the same and take the keys with you.
  • Always secure packages and valuables in the trunk before leaving your vehicle.

  • While driving, if you are bumped from behind or if someone indicate for you to pull over, do not stop! Drive to the nearest, well lighted public area and dial police at 911.

  • If someone suspicious approaches your vehicle while stopped at a traffic light or sign, blow your horn.

  • Always park in well lighted areas and check the interior of the vehicle and surrounding areas before entering the car.

IN YOUR HOTEL

  • Do not answer the door in a hotel or motel room without verifying who it is. If they claim to be an employee, check with the front desk and ask if someone from staff has access to your room.

  • Use the main entrance when returning to your room late at night. Be observant and look around parking lots before entering.

  • Close the door securely whenever you are in your room and use all locking devices provided.

  • Do not draw attention to yourself by displaying large sums of cash or expensive jewelry.

  • Do not invite strangers to your room. Place all valuables and in the hotel or motel safe.

  • Check to see that any sliding glass doors or windows and any connecting room doors are locked.

  • If you see any suspicious activity, report it immediately to hotel security or the front desk.

  • When at the pool or beach never leave purses, wallets or keys Out of sight.

  • Ask concierge for specific directions when you are driving and for the most direct route to you destination.
